politicalprof:
Since the presidential race is well underway, it is perhaps timely to ask a question that almost no one ever seems to actually address in campaign coverage:
What, exactly, do presidents do?
You’d think the president’s job description would be front and center in any campaign coverage, as well as…

I don't like sad movies.
Which is probably the only reason I wouldn’t recommend “Raincoat.” It’s beautiful and poignant in its simplicity and totally unlike any other Bollywood film I’ve ever seen — it’s a great film, it’s just sad as anything. I mean sure, you can find the hopes and dreams and touching moments sprinkled throughout but it’s just so sad. I guess I was...
I don’t know if every college’s ‘Class of 2015’ FB group is as active as mine’s but HOLY CRAP there’s one post with the sole goal of reaching 30,000 comments by move-in day, there’s another talking about Pillow Pets, there are the college related ones about microwaves and housing and tuition freakouts, and there’s one about Bollywood (which I...

Rape Culture Pro Tip
pantslessprogressive:
If someone is not strongly and widely chastised and disowned for using “rape a pregnant bitch and call it a threesome” in song lyrics, then our society has a giant fucking problem.

OMGGG. Just Wikipedia'ed Jugal Hansraj.
kajolsunibrow:
Trivia
Hansraj gave close friend and director Karan Johar the tune and the lyrics of the first eight lines of the title song of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai during a guys’ night out in a Mumbai restaurant. The song went on to become a huge hit and remains, to this day, one of the most popular Hindi romantic songs ever.
^my reaction at reading KKHH trivia I was not aware of.
I love my local library
I can “suspend” my holds which means I can essentially save my space in line for books I have on hold if I’m going away/don’t have time to read, etc. AKA what I should have done for “Mockingjay” since I now have “The Hunger Games” but am position 117 on 72 copies for “Catching Fire.”
I’m in a reading rut I want my boooks nowwww

This weekend, as most of the Eastern Seaboard prepares for a watery wallop, as everyone else brawls over nonperishables in Giant, bookworms are preparing to live out a deep and soulful dream. A Laura Ingallsesque dream. A dream that involves hot chocolate and fuzzy slippers, and showcasing one’s literary dedication by self-punishing one’s eyesight.

The Mindset List: Class of 2015 →
A couple of my favorites:
7. As they’ve grown up on websites and cell phones, adult experts have constantly fretted about their alleged deficits of empathy and concentration.
12. Amazon has never been just a river in South America.
20. Life has always been like a box of chocolates.
And a couple that made me go 0.o:
35. The bloody conflict between the government and a religious cult has...

Why Are Finland's Schools Successful? →
The transformation of the Finns’ education system began some 40 years ago as the key propellent of the country’s economic recovery plan. Educators had little idea it was so successful until 2000, when the first results from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), a standardized test given to 15-year-olds in more than 40 global venues, revealed Finnish youth to be the best...

Little moments
walking to a close friend’s house in a cool summer’s breeze, squishing cold mud between bare toes, catching the frisbee without flinching, receiving an amusing text, planning the planning of a Harry Potter movie marathon, strategizing (somewhat successfully) over Uno, giving and getting the last big hug for a long while from said friend, having a comfortable silent pause on the way...
